You thread through Val Veny and Val Ferret with Mont Blanc, the Grandes Jorasses, and the Italian glaciers in view most of the day. Allow about 5.5 hours - the terrain shifts between rocky paths, grassy cols, and forest.

Courmayeur is the payoff: gelato, a proper meal, and a town worth wandering before the next stage. I'd suggest booking accommodation ahead in peak season.
